Is a Tummy Tuck for you?
Abdominoplasty procedures, or Tummy Tucks, have become a popular surgical choice among younger women. Tummy Tucks are designed to help women feel great about themselves while looking even better.
However, our goal at ACC is to stress that Tummy Tucks are most important when it comes to solving specific issues. While almost anyone can benefit aesthetically from a tighter stomach and thinner figure, the most striking results are always in situations where the patient was previously experiencing flaccid skin, a protruding abdomen or build-up of fatty tissue.
One of the first things your surgeon might ask you, is if you have any future plans for pregnancies or weight loss, as an Abdominoplasty procedure may interfere. Usually, the perfect time for a Tummy Tuck is after you’ve finished having children or pursuing weight loss regimes. Abdominoplasty procedures put the finishing touches on your body by removing the excess skin and fat deposits that won’t go away with common exercise and diet routines.
Excess skin is a common side effect of weight-loss or giving birth. Once skin has stretched to to suit a larger figure, it’s difficult or even completely impossible to get it back to normal without an Abdominoplasty.
But, even the inside of your tummy will be influenced by pregnancy. Childbirth often leads to the weakening, separation and degeneration of one’s abdominal muscle wall. As the mother’s body changes to accommodate a child during pregnancy, these muscle walls are twisted and separated in inconsistent and unpredictable ways. Because these muscles are vital to mobility and body support, it’s important that they fully heal after giving birth. Unfortunately, they frequently don’t. Surgery can help tighten these muscles, essentially matching them by hand to your new slimmer body type.
A protruding stomach or abdomen can even be ascribed to various genetic and hereditary circumstances. Some people are just built in such a way that their body happens to store fat in those areas. The problem with this is that it’s difficult to target those areas with exercises, meaning an abdominoplasty is sometimes the only way to fix weight issues that are concentrated in these parts of the body.
During abdominal surgery, excess skin and fat is removed. Next, the underlying abdominal muscles will be tightened. To highlight the result even more, the Tummy Tuck is often performed in conjunction with liposuction, as more fat is removed from the muscles.

Choosing Your Breast Implant Profile
Making the decision to undergo a breast augmentation procedure is a difficult decision in itself, let alone selecting the implants that are best suited to you, especially with so many options to choose from.
Implants are selected based on different characteristics ranging from filler materials to the texture of the implant shell. Another important decision that you will have to make is deciding on the profile of the implant. Below is a small explanation of what profile exactly is, and why it so important.
What does profile mean?
The profile of a breast implant refers to the width of a implant’s base, and how much the implant will project forward because of it. As the size or volume of an implant increases, the dimensions will either get wider and have the same projection or have more projection while keeping the same width. These profiles come in four different variations: low, medium, high, and extra-high.
This means that low-implants will make breasts look wider and flatter, while an extra-high implants with the same volume would make them narrower and more projected.
Selecting between the different profiles
Selecting the right profile is based on the width of someone’s torso. When a person has a wide torso, a wider implant is needed so that the implants proportionately fill out the chest. In this situation, a low or mid-profile implant may be better, while a high-profile implant will be likely leave too much space in between the breasts.
A higher profile is better suited to someone with a narrow torso. Choosing implants that are too wide for your torso could result in implants being positioned too close in the centre or hanging off to the side.
While it is important that the implant is in accordance with the torso, the tightness of the tissue envelope should not be forgotten either. While an extra-high implant could fit the width of your torso, if your tissue envelope is too tight it will limit the amount of forward projection that you could have. This is likely to result in the atrophy of breast tissue or even a chest wall deformity.
Because selecting the right fit is so important, write down any wishes you might have for your look, and discuss it with your surgeon during your consultation.

How to Maximise Your Recovery Time After a Facelift
A facelift surgery is an exciting step in learning to love the skin you’re in. Whether the surgery is a choice or a requirement, it is a big deal. After any procedure, it is important that you allow yourself the time to rest, recover, and recoup. This allows any side effects or discomfort to subside, and will give you the best results.
Here’s what you can expect to experience during your recovery period and what you can do to make the most of this time;
Rest, but don’t stop moving
Resting is a crucial part of recovering from any procedure, however it is important that you maintain a light exercise regime to enable the healing process to be carried out effectively. Walking around the house, light cleaning, or playing with pets are great ways to improve blood circulation and relieve muscle soreness. Staying active also helps increase your energy levels, combating any medications you receive that stimulate drowsiness. Avoid increasing your exercise load for approximately 3-4 weeks post-op.
Take Your Prescribed Medication
After your operation you will be issued prescription medication to alleviate any discomfort or pain. This medication has been chosen to aid your recovery and will either be taken orally or applied as directed by your surgeon. Be sure to ask your surgeon about the correct dosage and discuss any concerns before undergoing the operation.
Take advantage of the full recovery time
Every patient is different, meaning your recovery time may be different to others who have undergone a similar procedure. Standard Mid facelifts typically take approximately 10 days to recover from, while Endoscopic facelifts only take 2-3. Thread and Mini facelifts are smaller procedures only requiring 1-2 days. Before continuing any strenuous exercise or heading out to socialise with friends, be sure to put your health first and get that all needed TLC.
Don’t expect to see the results the next day
For the first few days post-op, your results won’t be immediately obvious. For the first 24 hours, you can expect to use a bandage to reduce swelling as bruising begins to show through. Expecting results too early on can often have negative effects on our self-esteem, leaving us to feel unhappy and unmotivated, meaning it is important that we are prepared for what to expect. This is a process of loving yourself, so sit back and put your feet up.
The recovery process can be long and challenging but the reward is worth it.

What To Ask Before Undergoing a Breast Augmentation
The process of deciding whether to undergo a breast augmentation surgery is an exciting yet daunting experience, particularly when we have questions that we might not be comfortable asking.
If you opt to research your procedure online, you may find that information you read is outdated, irrelevant, or simply untrue. The best way to get the answers to your questions is to ask your qualified surgeon, even if it feels embarrassing to ask.
Listed below are five commonly asked questions.
What happens if I get pregnant straight after my breast augmentation?
While it is not recommended that you try to fall pregnant within a few weeks following a breast augmentation procedure, surprises can occur. Falling pregnant soon after your surgery should not affect the results of your procedure, however you should consult your surgeon for more information.
What if my breasts start to droop with age?
Drooping or sagging breasts occur naturally with age, regardless of whether you have implants or not. Your surgeon understands this and may offer reshaping through surgical means. This may mean a fat tissue transfer, breast lift, or another breast augmentation surgery.
Do breast implants require maintenance?
Breast implants are easy to take care of, however do require a little maintenance. Following your surgery, you should be provided with information on what you need to do to take care of your new implants. This often involves self-examination to check for irregularities, and screening for health risks such as breast cancer. It is important that you consult a GP if any issues arise and be sure to tell them that you have breast implants.
Will my nipples hurt?
After a breast augmentation, some women experience nipple pain or burning. This is commonly due to the stretching of the nerves as the implant has been placed. In more severe cases, numbness, bruising, or tingling may occur as the as the nerves repair. Most women find that BOTOX can relieve these symptoms, however they often go away soon after the surgery.
What is the most common surgical complication you (your surgeon) deal with in your practice?
Whether we mind it or not, undergoing any type of medical procedure comes with risks. Your surgeon is required by law to inform you of these risks before undergoing the procedure. Asking what situations they’ve most commonly dealt with, and what steps they take should they encounter a post-op complication will ensure your needs are being met.
Before heading in to your consultation, be sure to write down any questions you may have beforehand to make sure you’re getting the answers you need. Remember, your surgeon has a responsibility to put you first.

Your Rhinoplasty Procedure
Thinking about undergoing a rhinoplasty procedure?
Sometimes our noses aren’t perfect and can often leave us with breathing impairments, sight impairments, and lowered confidence. Rhinoplasty procedures are the affordable and often only solution to these problems.
Many patients often desire a broadened nasal projection to approve appearance and breathing ability, although your surgeon will discuss this with you.
Your surgeon will choose a technique to suit your needs and the results you desire. Some surgeons will conduct the procedure using various synthetic materials, however many prefer to use “autologus” tissue which is derived from the patient’s own body. Using autologus tissue minimises the risk of rejection and the possibility of infection.
Certain synthetic materials are chosen due to their durability, making it easier for the surgeon to shape the material into your desired result. Often the chosen material is porous polyethylene as it is uncommon for it to naturally alter its shape.
If you’re interested in undergoing an augmentation rhinoplasty, booking a consultation with one of our qualified surgeons will help you to understand the procedure, what’s involved, and what’s next. Give our friendly team a call on 1300 559 848.

Your Winter Body Woes Sorted
It’s no secret that Winter can put a dampener on our moods. The cold mornings, early nights, and rainy days can bring us the 24/7 blues that no amount of warm blankets and hot chocolates can fix. But good news, if a cosmetic procedure was on your wishlist this season then there’s no better time to do it and here’s why;
- Staying indoors
Undergoing a cosmetic procedure causes bruising and swelling as you heal, leaving many patients feeling uncomfortable when socialising with others. Cold temperatures and unsightly weather means staying indoors more often, giving you the comfort and time you need to recover. - Winter clothes
The joys of more coverage! Winter clothes, scarves, and beanies are a great excuse to cover up the bruising and swelling that comes with any surgery. - Getting Summer-ready
Summer bodies are made in Winter. Choosing to undergo your cosmetic procedure during Winter means that you’ll have time to recover and look better than ever for Summer. Eating wholesome foods and staying hydrated will ensure you’re receiving the nutrients your body needs to recover quickly and recover well, all while helping you achieve your Summer glow! - More time
During Summer, many people often feel they don’t have the time to spend recovering properly after their surgery. Friends and family will want to be out enjoying the lifestyle that Summer has to offer, leaving you to feel left out if you don’t enjoy it with them. Not giving your body the recovery time it needs can cause you to recover slower, not recover properly, or result in a medical illness or infection, particularly when frequently exposed to sun. Winter is the perfect time to undergo your procedure with more people happy to stay indoors.

Your Guide To Body Types
When it comes to body types, everybody is different and we should all celebrate our individuality. But when it comes to knowing the facts, we are often bombarded with lots of unnecessary information. Most people often fit within five categories of body types, each with their own unique benefits! Take a look at the facts below to figure out which body type you are and how you can dress to impress, giving you the confidence you deserve.
Apple
Traits
– Your chest/bust is larger than your hips
– Your waist is less defined
– You have leaner legs (lower) and arms
– You gain weight around the waist more than other areas
Having an apple body shape means you’re wardrobe is best suited to clothing that highlights your bust and draws in loosely at the waist to give you more definition. Because you have a bigger bust, you will need a properly fitted bra. When choosing tops, v-necks and loose fitting shirts that sit just below your hip bone often give you the shape you’re after. When choosing pants or skirts, we suggest wearing items with zippers on the side to avoid adding extra volume around the front.
Jennifer hudson, Angelina Jolie and Tyra Banks are some of our favourite celebrities rocking the apple shape every day.
Pear
Traits
– Your hips are larger than your bust
– You have a smaller waist
– You have slim arms and shoulders
– You gain weight in your legs, hips and thighs before other areas of your body.
Having a pear body shape means your wardrobe is best suited to clothing that highlights your waist. Fitted shirts or clothes with a waist tie often compliment your body shape. When it comes to choosing pants or skirts, look for clothing that will direct attention to your waist. Skirts that flow out from the hips or straight pants that fall straight from the hips.
Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez all celebrate the pear shape!
Hourglass
Traits
– Your body weight sits mostly in your hips and bust
– You have a smaller waist
– Your lower hips are wide and your thighs are full but narrower
– Your hips and shoulders are approximately the same width
Your body shape is best suited to form-hugging shirts. This may be in the form of wraps, tube tops, knit tops or belts that accentuate the waist. Your shoulders are gentle and well-rounded so vouching for singlets or boat-neck shirts will show them off. High-waisted bottoms of any length will show off your defined legs and curved hips.
Kim Kardashian, Marilyn Monroe and Shakira are known for their hourglass figures!
Rectangle
Traits
– Your hips, waistline and shoulders are around the same width
– You have an athletic build and no defined waist
– Your body weight sits evenly in all areas of your body
– Your bust and buttocks are smaller or average
Your body shape is common in many models and most clothes will suit you well. You will often want to create curves by defining the waist with wrap shirts or shirts with a waist tie. We also suggest investing in padded bras or jackets with small shoulder pads. Your body shape will also allow you to pull off the straight look. Wearing straight dresses will compliment you, giving you a petite appearance. You can wear almost any type of bottom, however pants with flared bottoms will give you more shape!
Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz and Gwyneth Paltrow are our rectangle celeb favourites.
Inverted Triangle
Traits
– You have broad shoulders
– You may have a bigger chest and upper back
– You have slimmer legs, thighs, and buttox
This body shape is another common body shape in the modelling industry. Open necklines (v-necks and halter necks) will often give the appearance of a smaller upper body. Wearing clothing that will accentuate the waist and create the appearance that your bust and hips are balanced will give you a curvier look. Wearing vertical line patterns on your shirts will create the appearance of evenness between your upper and lower body. Wider clothing and A-line skirts will also help to achieve a curvier look.
Naomi Campbell, Demi Moore and Miley Cyrus are our inverted triangle celeb picks!
Whatever your body shape, we all have reasons to celebrate. Keeping a healthy attitude towards your body by eating well and exercising will ensure a positive body image and healthy attitude to life. In many cases, our wonderful bodies can be enhanced by cosmetic procedures. To view our range of procedures that can help you continue to celebrate the skin you’re in, click here!

The Myths of Cosmetic Surgery, Busted!
Undergoing surgery is a big process, and an even bigger decision to begin with. There are a lot of negative stories, misconceptions, and myths targeted at cosmetic surgery, but it is time to set the record straight!
Don’t let anything delay you from feeling more confident and happy! Here are all the myths you’ve heard about cosmetic surgery, busted!
Only Women Should Get Plastic Surgery
Men currently stand for about 20% of all patients that undergo cosmetic surgery, and that number is growing! The need to feel confident and happy with the way you look isn’t just a feminine issue, and men often feel the need to look their best in a competitive setting, whether it’s romantically, or in the workplace.
You’re Vain if you Get Cosmetic Surgery
People choose cosmetic surgery for a variety of reasons. Whether it’s to improve body image and self-confidence, for medical reasons, or even for pain management. There is nothing wrong with wanting to have a procedure done, and as cosmetic surgery is becoming more popular, there is far less stigma surrounding it.
Recovery Time is Too Long
Whilst all cosmetic surgery requires recovery time, the length is dependent on the type of surgery (minor or major). Minor surgeries only take a few days to recover from, and major surgeries will only take a few weeks, maximum. For instance, the recovery time for the average breast augmentation is only about four to seven days, then the client may return to work and other activities.
Cosmetic Surgery is Dangerous
There are potential risks and complications with any type of surgery, but the chances are extremely low, when your surgery is completed by a medical professional and when you are highly informed about the surgery. This includes what you should and shouldn’t do during and after the surgery; your highly qualified Australia Cosmetic Clinics surgeon will inform you of the specifics during your consultations.
You Have to Be Rich
Studies have found that the majority of clients who undergo cosmetic surgery are from the middle class. Minor surgery is obviously cheaper than major, and there are many options for paying for surgery such as finance options & payment plans.
The process and results of cosmetic surgery are exciting to think about. Embrace the positive realities and ignore the myths!
